HOLY SPIRT 101
“ I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper,[f] to be with you forever,John 14:16 ESV
For a long time in the church, the Person and work of the Holy Spirit has been largely:
· IGNORED·
RESISTED·
MISUNDERSTOOD·
WEIRD.
I. Bible describes the Holy Spirit as a PERSON: 14:16-17; 15:26; 16:26- “
· He has INTELLECT:1 Corinthians 2:11; Romans 8:27
· The Holy Spirit also has FEELINGS: Ephesians 4:30
· The Holy Spirit also has a WILL. 1 Corinthians 12:11
The Holy Spirit contains all of the aspects of personality. The Bible also speaks of the actions of the Holy Spirit.
· HE SPEAKS. IN ACTS 13:2,
· HE TESTIFIES: John 14:16-18
· HE TEACHES:
· HE CONVICTS: John 16
· HE INTERCEDES FOR US: Romans 8
· HE GUIDES US INTO ALL TRUTH:
· HE REVEALS GODS WORD TO US:
· HE CAN BE TESTED:
· HE CAN BE LIED TOO: Acts 5,
· HE CAN BE GRIEVED: Eph 4:30. Isaiah 63:10
· HE CAN BE RESISTED:
· HE CAN BE INSULTED, BLASPHEMED, and QUENCHED.
II. The Holy Spirit is a DIVINE PERSON
· The Holy Spirit is connected with the Father and Son. Wherever you see the Father and Son, you see the Spirit also included. HE is not 1/3 God, He is fully God. In 2 Corinthians 13:14,
· HE IS ETERNAL: Hebrews 9:14
· HE IS ALL KNOWING: 1 Cor 2:10-11
· HE IS ALL POWERFUL:Luke 1:35,37
· HE IS EVERYWHERE: Psalm 139:7-10
· HE GIVES PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL LIFE: Genesis, 1:2, Psalm 104:30;John 3:1-8;
· HE MAKES YOU MORE LIKE JESUS.1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 3:18.
III. HE IS OUR HELPER: PARAKLETOS- In JOHN 14:16, the Holy Spirit is referred to as the Comforter, Advocate, Helper or Counselor depending on the Bible translation you are reading.
HOW DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT HELP US?
1. Advocate: The Spirit is on your side.
2. Comforter:The Spirit gives comfort.
3. Encourager: The Spirit urges you on through encouragement.
4. Counselor: The Spirit gives Christ’s counsel.
5. Helper: The Spirit helps you.
P.P.- This brings us to my PowerPoint that summarizes the message. The Holy Spirit is our best friend who is God and helps us to live and love like Jesus.
Conclusion
The Spirit will not storm down the door of our life. He seeks an invitation. Will you turn and invite Him to change your life today?
